The numbers have been shown multiple times, 227 passengers and 12 crew members aboard Flight MH-370 when it went missing. Most of the media coverage is so focused on what happened to the aircraft but what they don't realize is the passengers on Flight MH-370 are so much more than just a number. Not to mention the struggles their families are facing as well. Flight MH-370 carried passengers from 14 different nations including Canada, Australia, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, the Netherlands, Russia, Taiwan, Ukraine and the US. A week before the aircraft went missing, Rui emailed his former classmates pictures of his vacation. It was a regular gesture Rui made to help keep in contact with his friends. Saleel Limaye, Rui's classmate, said the pictures he would send were fantastic. A friend of Weiwei, Weina Shi, commented on how warm, sweet and caring of a women Weiwei is. Sadly Moheng, Rui and Weiwei, were not the only members of their family to board Flight MH-370. Moheng's grandparents, Dai Shuling and Jiao Wenxue both 58 years old, were also on their way back from vacation with their family.
Wen Yongsheng is a 34 year old businessman and was also on Flight MH-370. His father has been generous enough to speak with the media about what the family has been going through. "Come back quickly. You have made everyone in the family very nervous," Wen's father said in regards to the family. He also said "Everyone in the family is waiting for you to return. He has to come back, everyone on board. He can't come back by himself." The two comments alone, can show the anguish and pain the family is going through. Puspanahtan Subramaniam is also a 34 year old but is an information technology specialist. While Puspanahtan was about to leave to board Flight MH-370, his two young children wrapped around his legs and refused to let him go. Instead, he promised to bring them back chocolates and presents. His father, Gurusami, explained just how important his son is to the family. He said, "He was responsible for everything, these clothes I'm wearing, even. Whatever country he was in, he would call. Once a week, he would come see us with the whole family. He really took care of us." It is just heart wrenching to see what these families are feeling. Some families wish the investigation could be moved into the hands of Wood Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI). The organization was responsible for finding a missing plane back in 2009 but in the meantime the families are being offered a compensation. A Malaysian official also offered the families some financial assistance, not that it will replace their loved ones, but something to try and help in the mean time.
This video shows the devastation these families are facing.
Once Flight MH-370 was reported as missing, several of the family members were offered to stay at a nearby accommodations set up by the Malaysian Airlines in Malaysia.
